Parko's Maldives Quiver

Parko, ready for every division at one of the most fun and original events in our sport.

Since retiring from the CT, Joel's ridden his Black Baron twin more than any other board. Aside from that, he's also won the Burleigh Single Fin Classic, and gone from foiling enthusiast to borderline extremist to stay in the ocean at all costs even if there’s barely any waves.

Now, with the upcoming Four Seasons Maldives event utilising a round of competition on everything from singles to twins and thrusters, we’ve got just about the perfect opportunity to showcase both Joel's skills across every type of surfboard, and the passion from JS to make each one the best it can possibly be. Parko’s probably wishing for an official foiling division too, but at least he’ll get in a lot of R&D in the tropics. Maybe next year that'll be the tiebreaker.

Press release event details plus Joel’s quiver / board breakdowns, below:

Retired world champ, all-round waterman and proud father - in between taking his kids surfing, this is just some of what Joel's been staying busy with (he's 6'0" / 83kg):

Blakbird foil

4'8" x 19 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 30.4L

Single

5’10” x 19 1/2” x 2 7/16” x 30.1L

Black Baron twin

5’6” x 20” x 2 3/8” x 29L

5’8” x 19 3/4” x 2 3/8” x 29.3L

Monsta 8 thruster

6’0” x 18 7/8” x 2 3/8” x 28.2L

On Parko's last trip he only took one board - his Black Baron. This time around he's taking a whole lot less rubber, but a few more options. The twin and Joel, both in their element, filmed by Billy Lee Pope.

Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy

August 5th-12th

Surfing’s most luxurious contest is back for another year of celebrating and challenging the greats, with the 2019 edition of the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy kicking off next week at the Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa For the ninth year running a stellar field has assembled in the Indian Ocean looking to add their names to an already stacked honour roll, at the only event that crowns a winner after three rounds of competition on three different types of surfboard – single fin, twin fin and thruster (tri-fin).

Parko means business this week, despite the laid back vibe of the event. "The Maldives is one of my favourite surf spots in the world and as a holiday destination, it doesn’t get more amazing for a surfer and his family,” says Parkinson. "Now my kids are older we are making this contest into a family project and I am coming to win the Four Seasons Surfing Champions Trophy to show them dad can still mix it with the best of them.”
