J-Dub, getting ready to unleash on Arpoador's super rippable lefts. Photo Ryan Miller 2016's edition of the Oi Rio Pro starts in a red hot minute, and all of our team in Brazil have been doing laps around the contest zone to acclimatise to Rio's high performance peaks. Sally on the podium - a sight we're getting pretty used to seeing in 2016! Photo Ryan Miller What an end to the women's CT event in Rio! Tiny in the morning, barely a notch bigger at lunchtime, then completely maxing out by dark. Sally continued her run through the tricky conditions to make her second final of the season so far, and throw her name firmly in the ring for title contention. Mr Payne juggles both progression and power better than most, and in Rio he had the perfect answer for every section. Photo Ryan Miller With so many surfers injured, retiring, or semi-retired, 2016's definitely been the year of the wildcard. Every event since Snapper has seen at least one breakout performance from someone outside the top 32, and in Brazil, it was Dusty's time to shine. The lack of pressure and sheer gratitude for receiving a call-up often creates a great environment for experienced wildcards to do well, and whether it was during a freesurf, in a heat, or even just ordering food from the same vegan restaurant every day, Dusty looked more than comfortable in Rio. We definitely haven't seen the last of him this year on the CT! Read MoreSaturday, May 28, 2016 2:30:43 PM America/Los_Angeles

Step ups aren't only for getting tubed! Photo Jo Brebner How often is a consolation prize better than the main trophy? Obviously, Julian wouldn't mind still being in Fiji enduring lay day after lay day and getting his hair shaved by Parko or Taj, but bailing from 8 days straight of cabin fever to score the best east coast swell of the year has got to feel pretty damn good! Thanks to his snowy blonde hair and ridiculous skills in the water, Caleb's not exactly hard to spot in the water. But when you adds his sprays by our very own resident nutjob Adrian Turner, well, it's pretty much impossible to miss him. aleb Tancred's everything you could ask for in a super grommet - he tears in all conditions, has a good head on his shoulders, and is respectful of everyone. Now, after picking up his new winter quiver from the JS Factory, our young gun has his eyes set on the Occy Grom Comp starting at Duranbah on the weekend - one of the biggest contests in the southern hemisphere for young surfers, which he also took out in 2014. Like most of the team, Caleb relies on his Monsta 6s to perform every day, along with a few other favourite models - Youth Series quiver breakdown below! Julian and Jbay - both all about speed. Photo Trevor Moran The CT's been unlucky this year, with the best waves at each spot often falling just outside the waiting period - giving either an epic warm up session (like Snapper) that overshadows the main event, or never really getting out of second gear at all. Ace, with a heat win in the bag and whole lot of rail in the water. At 5'9" / 76kgs, he rides a 5'11" x 18 3/4" x 2 5/16" x 26.7L Monsta 6. Photo Ryan Miller Read MoreMonday, July 11, 2016 10:28:00 AM America/Los_Angeles
J-Dub blasting a lofty slob-grab on a fresh Monsta 6 during a warmup - confidence, sky high. Photo Ryan Miller Whether it was laying down huge turns and finding tubes in the earlier rounds, or landing some solid airs on his way to the quarterfinals, Julian's gone from strength to strength so far in Jbay. Regardless of the conditions, Jules' versatility so far has been ridiculous - even a close encounter with the infamous "bricks" after committing to the end section against Parko didn't interrupt his run of heat wins!
