What is HYFI 2.0?

Our unparalleled epoxy technology, HYFI, is a unique multi-layer construction that feels like nothing else out there. Think of it as a futuristic exoskeleton for a surfboard that allows it to be lighter and stronger than ever before, while still maintaining the ideal spring-loaded flex for maximum performance. Now, in the last 5 years since it was first released, we’ve taken everything learned to improve each aspect – the performance, flex, speed, materials used and manufacturing processes.

We found the next level of this technology by developing precision engineered stringers, or pins, which are scaled specifically for each board. The size of the pin changes depending on the dimensions of the HYFI, and therefore the weight of its intended rider. The shape of each board’s pin perfectly reflects our goal of making the stiffest part of the board at the centre, tapering out to each end. This results in an even better flex pattern that helps you load and explode into turns.

We’ve also changed the balance of strength – whereas the top and bottom were the same in our original HYFI, HYFI 2.0 construction features a stronger deck. It’s been tested by surfers of all sizes, in every type of wave, resulting in a technology that’s been carefully tuned and adjusted for each set of dimensions we build. That means your next best board ever is made in HYFI 2.

Our new gold standard of all-rounders, the Xero came together by fusing elements of the most popular current models together, just like the Monsta Box. JS focussed on the strengths of our three clear global favourites over the past decade, and tested combinations along with fresh ideas endlessly alongside the Traktor Team to find the ultimate everyday shortboard. Built to blow minds in all conditions – especially weaker, flatter faced waves. Available now in HYFI 2.0.

How do I look after my HYFI?

  • Be careful with your HYFI, both in and out of the water! Although they're much stronger and more durable than normal PU surfboards, they're not indestructible.
  • Don't leave it in the sun. No surfboard deals well with a lot of excess heat.
  • Ensure any minor dings are fixed with epoxy resin.

If you can tick these few simple boxes then there's a great chance your HYFI will be your best friend for a long, long time. Enjoy!

Should I change my dimensions or volume when choosing a HYFI board?

Throughout the development of HYFI, during which the team tried dozens of prototypes in a range of different models, they found their boards worked best in standard dimensions. While the EPS core and epoxy elements of the construction do add a small degree of extra flotation, testers like Dusty Payne (see his clip for more info) felt it was only just enough to notice a slight increase in buoyancy and ease of paddling, but not enough to warrant making any changes to dimensions or overall volume.

It's also worth noting that the rails in the HYFI range are slightly lowered compared to the standard PU models, which serves to make it even easier for you to ride your normal dimensions in the new tech.
