BOARD OVERVIEW
AN INSTANT CLASSIC.
An instant classic, the Big Baron is inspired by the mid lengths that generations before us rode on the infamous Gold Coast points. This is paired with a more modern bottom contour and twin fin placement, then complemented by a neatly pulled in round tail for extra hold. Because on this board, you’ll be burning speed and burying rail. A lot of it.
An overall flat rocker generates and holds momentum in even the weakest conditions, while vee throughout the board from nose to tail with added double concave through the fins helps it rock from rail to rail and retain its manoeuvrability. The plan shape holds a generous distribution of volume throughout, with relatively low rails allowing you to still turn at high speed. The Big Baron excels in playful conditions from knee high to slightly overhead. And while short, sharp waves are not where its range of strengths are best used, it has the paddle power and ability to control speed that you’ll love in quality, longer waves. On points, reefs, or beach breaks with stretched out banks, the Big Baron takes the pressure off and lets you enjoy the downtime between turns, tubes or the typical sections other boards can get stuck chasing. And as a bonus, riding the Big Baron will naturally smooth out your surfing and translate almost immediately to the shorter, more high-performance boards that most of us want to ride when conditions (and mood) align. The Big Baron is designed to give a lot and only require a little in return. More time to set up and make adjustments, earlier and easier entry as you paddle in, and the ability to go further and stay out longer in whatever waves are on offer.
*Recommended fin choice – JS Twin Fin for Futures or FCSII Power Twin template (both pictured).
TEAM RIDER REFERENCE
The vast majority of surfers could ride almost any of the Big Baron’s stock dimensions. Start with a couple more liters than your regular board, then go as big as you like depending on the style of waves and surfing you’re intending. For example, someone with a longboard background might just step down to a 7’0” or 7’6”, while a surfer who only rides shortboards might go no longer than a 6’4” to retain plenty of maneuverability. And as you can see from Jason’s tech talk, Harry has done both to great effect depending on conditions and the approach he’s aiming for.
HARRISON ROACH Height: 5’10” (177 cm) // Weight: 72 kg - 158 lbs
*Rides 6'4 ” x 20” x 2 9/16” = 34.3L
*Rides 7’6” x 21 ¾” x 2 7/8” x 50L
JOEL PARKiNSON Height: 6’0” (183 cm) // Weight: 87 kg - 192 lbs
*Rides 6'8 ” x 20 3/4” x 2 5/8” = 38.4L
LUKE EGAN Height: 5’11” (180 cm) // Weight: 90 kg - 198 lbs
*Rides 7'0 ” x 21 3/4” x 3” = 48.7L

Everyone needs to get one of these in they're quiver immediately! I started with a 7'6 big baron to try a mid length and was blown away by the speed especially when the waves were well overhead. I then went to JS garage and purchased a 6'6 and this one blew me away as it love to go rail to rail and can attack the lip. I also can get it in early at Cottons (trestles area) to battle the Mid length and long boarders. I just went the other day and purchased what is now my third Big Baron from the JS garage in 6'2 and this is now became my everyday driver as this thing rips... I now got two of my friends on them and one is about to get his second one in an additional size.

Like the title says, this is an absolute weapon in the small surf but can handle the bigger days as well. It’s a sort of one board quiver I feel because it can be ridden in so many types of conditions. Real fast down the line and once you want to crank a turn it’s gunna go where you want it to go. I only had room for 1 board on a Mexico trip. I brought the 6’6” big baron and absolutely scored waves from knee high slop at zippers to over head the next day at Cerritos ! This board works!

Getting older now, been on my 5'8 fish for awhile so was looking for more volume without going actual longboard. Got the 6'8 x 20 3/4 x 2 5/8. Board is so much fun, paddles and turns easy, Mostly tons of drive. Board just wants to go, plows thru white wash, flat sections just keeps going and going. Board feels like it just wants to go in bigger waves. Riding qualities, Magic Board status.
Problem I have is the glassing. The finish is a matte finish. the foam pads from my bike rack staind the board. Black stains on white finish looks bad. Sampled really fine sanded the flag on pintail just to see, and matte finish comes off clean with polish glass looks and feel. Not doing whole board. no way, too big board to do.
Epoxy glassing seems to be very flexible. Advise to cut out of wave properly and not let wave pull board. Developed a crack on inside of board in line with leash plug but did not crack the outer layer of glass.
I have several Firewire boards, nevere had these problems. Glassing is good.
Big Baron Great riding board. Not so great glassing.

Will definitely be riding this board until it delams which seems to be never with JS.
